It Really Is A Small World as Eddy Meets One of His Heroes at Antrim Care Home
You never know who you might meet is a true saying, especially in one of our care homes!
Eddy Kerr our Group Operations Manager is also a Director of Glenavon FC who play in the Danske Bank Irish Premier League. Whilst preparing to travel to Scotland with the Glenavon team last Friday he called in to Antrim Care Home and was delighted to meet one of the old time Glenavon favourites, Jackie Hughes! Jackie was recuperating in Antrim and looking forward to getting back home very soon. Jackie said on the day, ‘It’s great to meet Glenavon people and it’s been great to spend time here in Antrim Care Home with brilliant staff. They have all been so helpful and lovely helping me get back to health.’
Jackie played with the Glenavon team in the late 1950s and early 1960s along with many of the well known players of that era including Wilbur Cush, Jackie Denver and Jimmy Jones to name a few. Jackie ‘starred’ for Glenavon in the 1959 and 1961 cup finals and was a winner on both occasions beating his home town Ballymena and then Linfield respectively. It looks like Jackie’s winning touch travelled with Eddy as Glenavon won 3-0 and progressed to the last 16 of this year’s Scottish Challenge Cup at the weekend!
Thanks to Jackie for the memories and also his ‘lucky’ influence!
