A Tribute to Janet Montgomery
Director, Hutchinson Care Homes
At the age of 18 Janet embarked on a nursing career that spanned over 40 years. This began at Herrison Hospital, Dorset, England where she trained as a Registered Mental Health Nurse. She later continued with her studies to become a Registered General Nurse. Her Mum and Dad, John and Adeleine Hutchinson built and opened their first nursing home in 1990, where Janet became nurse manager of Clonlee Private Nursing Home. Massereene Manor later followed in 1997 and Janet moved to manage this newly purposed built specialist dementia home for a period of time.
After the sudden death of her mother in 2000, she took on a more strategic role within the business. In 2005, in partnership with her sister Naomi they purchased two more nursing homes, Glenkeen and Drummaul House in Randalstown. In 2013, the Hutchinson At Home service commenced, in addition to the purchase of Ballyclare and Clareview nursing homes. Antrim Care Home was later added to the group in 2016.
Janet’s nursing skills, dedication and knowledge of the healthcare sector were beyond measure and she was a true asset to the business. Janet drove forward the standard of excellence in care, which is deeply embedded throughout the organisation today. She pursued her nursing dream offering the best care within her community with unwavering determination. Her colleagues will always remember Janet for her exceptional nursing acumen, ability to inspire others, and dedication to her patients’ welfare.
Janet was a founding member of IHCP (Independent Health Care Providers) and has remained a director until now. She was also a tireless campaigner for the rights of older people and was a member of the Patient and Client Council for many years. Outside of work, Janet was an active member of the Macmillan Antrim Fundraising Group who greatly contributed to the establishment of the Macmillan unit at Antrim Hospital and provide services to people living with cancer.
Beyond her professional achievements, Janet was a beloved wife, mother, sister, auntie and friend. She cherished her family above all else and will be sorely missed by everyone.
