Happy Chinese New Year from Ballyclare

Ballyclare residents and staff  had a lovely week looking at how the Chinese celebrate their New Year.

It started 27th January and goes on for two weeks . The calendar is different from the Gregorian Calendar we westerners use and it changes according to the New Moon.

They have a different Zodiac from us as well. Every year is governed by an animal and this year is the year of the Rooster. Roosters are proud, dependable, strong and successful.

We made paper lanterns and had prawn crackers and looked up some of the writing for our banner.

Peggy, our dear centenarian loved the lamps and the prawn crackers.
